Oh my goodness, did I ever over-plant this garden. I had to severely cut back the tomatoes this week, and massacre the zucchini also to let a little light in for the green peppers and herbs. Next year, much as I like it, the zucchini will probably be a no-go because it takes up too much real estate, and I'll only plant one cherry tomato plant. All the plants are thriving because the horse trough provides perfect growing conditions. If you look very carefully, you can see the vegetable garden that my neighbor planted at about the same time (just on the other side of the fence); her tomato plants are about 15 inches tall. On the down side, I was only able to go six days this time between waterings. It makes sense because we've had a string of 90-plus degree days, and the plants themselves are getting huge so they require more water. So it looks like I can only count on taking a one-week vacation during the dog days of summer without having someone water for me.
Very nice! This is a great way to grow veggies in Colorado's dry climate.
Did you paint the outside of the trough? If so, what kind of paint did you use?
When can you come over to my house and help me set up one of these?? Love it!

Yes, the outside was was painted with Rustoleum paint. When Keith looked it up on a galvanized steel website, it said to lightly sand, then clean with ammonia before painting, so that's what he did.
